A drunken Sunderland man carried out a vicious assault after spending £90 on alcohol during a night out.

Gareth Mooney said he had little memory of what had happened after his marathon booze-up in Durham.

Steven Orange, prosecuting, told Durham Crown Court there was a fracas involving several people at about 3.30am outside the Argos store in North Road.

"The incident was caught on CCTV," added Mr Orange. "Mooney is seen to be aiming a kick at his victim, John Arnold."

Mooney. 21. of Bathgate Square, Town End Farm, denied wounding with intent, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of unlawful wounding.

Mooney was bailed to return to the court to be dealt with on September 22.
