AN OPEN-air classical concert due to be held tonight at one of the region's best-loved venues has been cancelled.
The National Trust has been forced to scrap the Classical Spectacular concert due to be presented by Songs of Praise star Aled Jones at Gibside this evening.

The Trust said today it had identified 'a number of significant safety issues on the estate' after yesterday's extreme weather.

The decision follows the cancellation of Gibside's Friday Night Fever and Fireworks after heavy rain made access into and around the estate treacherous

Organisers consulted with Northumbria Police, the health and safety committee for the event and the event promoter before deciding to pull the plug.

The National Trust will be contacting everyone who has bought a ticket to let them know how they will be refunded. A full refund will be given.
