A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl who suffered horrific burns when her dress caught fire is recovering in hospital.
She has been transferred from Newcastle General Hospital to the city’s Royal Victoria Infirmary’s burns unit where she is said to be “feeling much better”.
Police were called to a house in Beechwood Crescent, Southwick, on Sunday after receiving reports that a child had been badly injured.
The girl’s identity has not been revealed but her parents have been at her bedside.
The youngster is expected to remain in hospital for some time while the percentage of burns to her body is assessed by doctors.
Although officers from Sunderland Area Command confirmed they were investigating the near-tragedy, no arrests will be made in relation to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043.
