Entries are now open for the fourth Beamish Tram Challenge.

Two races will be held on Sunday, June 29 – a cross-country 10km contest and a 2.5km fun run.

Both will involve runners trying to beat one of the museum's historic trams around the course, but the 10km route will carry on through surrounding woods and finish in the grounds of Beamish Hall Hotel.

The event, organised in conjunction with Derwentside Athletic Club and sponsored by Stagecoach North East, is the brainchild of Sunderland-born author Terry Deary, who will be on hand to fire the starting pistol for both races.

Runners and supporters can also buy half-price tickets to visit the museum after the race.

Entries for each race are limited to 250 and cannot be accepted on the day.

Entry forms can be obtained from Carla Hunter, tel. 370 4035, email carlahunter@beamish.org.uk or by logging on to beamish.org.uk
