OVER 100 jobs will be created thanks to a £2m coastal funding cash boost in Sunderland and Seaham.
Sunderland City Council has received £540,000 from the Government’s Coastal Communities Fund to set up a year-round programme of events and attractions at the seafront to attract more visitors and improve infrastructure and training for businesses. Seaham Marina has also scooped £1.7m to continue ongoing regeneration work, with the money to be splashed out on new watersport facilities and 23 new boatyard berths, as well as improved access to the beach and other amenities, creating 70 jobs.
Coun Mel Speding, Cabinet Secretary for Sunderland City Council, said: “It is great news. We can generate extra footfall, which will help existing businesses and allow new businesses to be set up pn the back of it.” The investment will support 60 businesses and create 38 jobs.
