100 years of the Football Echo

We need your help to celebrate the 100th birthday of a Saturday evening institution, your Football Echo ...

It's been a topsy-turvy century for SAFC, and the Footy Echo has been there every step of the way.

Cup victories, league titles and payment scandals have helped make supporting Sunderland an unforgettable rollercoaster, and ensured the Footy Echo has been an essential read.

We're appealing for your memories of the great matches, great players and your favourite Football Echo moments from down the years.

Maybe you remember the 1912/13 double dream that was shattered in the FA Cup final by Aston Villa, or Wembley triumphs against Preston in 1937 and Leeds in 1973?

Perhaps you can recall the turbulent times in the 1950s when a payment scandal at Roker Park rocked football?

And what about Sunderland's darkest day of all, when Lawrie McMenemy's team slid into the third flight of the English game for the first time in the club's proud history?

Maybe you recall the great times and the magnificent players who have graced the red and white? Players such as Charlie Buchan, Raich Carter, Bobby Gurney, Len Shackleton, Trevor Ford, Charlie Hurley, Brian Clough and Jimmy Montgomery?

The best recollections will appear in our special centenary edition of the Football Echo.

Email Ian Laws or Graeme Anderson with your memories, or use the comment box below to tell us why you're Sunderland till you die...
