LAST year, Tunstall mum-of-two Ursula Smith walked away with a brand new smile and the confidence to match.

After entering our Gift of a Smile competition, Ursula was chosen for a full dental makeover courtesy of Olivers Dental Studio, in East Herrington.

“I feel like a million dollars – I feel like Madonna. I’m really pleased with my smile. Everyone comments on it,” said Ursula at the time, who was also treated to an afternoon of pampering from Reds and a photo shoot with David Lawson Studios.

Ursula’s treatment included Enlighten tooth whitening, a smile makeover on her upper front teeth, two porcelain crowns and white fillings to replace silver ones.

Ursula entered the competition because she had never liked her teeth – they crossed at the front and she was unhappy with the colour.

But after extensive treatment from Michael Oliver, owner of the Sunderland practice, she found a new self-belief.

Michael said: “We met a shy, reserved lady and now I would say she is stunning.”

Now Olivers are looking for the next deserving Echo reader to benefit from a £10,000 transformation.

Dentist Iain Morrison, 29, joined the practice last year, and has a new system to use with the winner called Cfast, short for Cosmetically Focused Adult Straight Teeth.

Iain said: “It’s a brand new straight teeth system and we are the only dentists to offer it in Sunderland.

“It’s a fantastic product, the next step, and can treat a lot of different cases.

“The treatment takes between four and six months whereas conventional braces can take two and a half years, so the Cfast is very good. First we see the person and find out what their problems or concerns are.

“As soon as we’ve determined that Cfast is suitable for that customer then we can fit the brace and they return once a month to have it tightened or adjusted.

“It’s suitable for adults where the crowding is within a certain limit. Like all dental systems there are specific criteria that go along with it.

“It can suit cases where teeth cross over, stick out, are crowded or there are spaces between them.

“I’ve been using Cfast since October and we’ve had some fabulous results – people are really happy with it.”

Gappy, missing, broken or stained teeth are common occurrences, and Iain is keen to find someone who hates smiling and turn things around for them.

He said: “Winning a prize like this can make a big difference to someone. It increases their confidence and they’re happy to smile. If something’s bothered you for a long time then you can get it changed, you only get one chance at these things.

“Whatever the patient wants or needs. If they need veneers, whitening, replace crowns or fillings we can do that – with £10,000 of treatment pretty much anything is possible.”

To enter, simply write and tell us in no more than 100 words why you would like to win the Gift of a Smile Competition and attach a photo of yourself.
