BOSSES of a pub are hoping the revamped watering hole will become a focal point for the community.
The Grey Horse, in Front Street, East Boldon, has reopened after a £100,000 facelift.
As well as a new look, the bar, which is run by the pub chain Barracuda, has also created four new jobs.
Work began on the pub at the beginning of the month, with builders restoring and painting the wooden exterior to its former glory.
Licensees Sheila Robson and Ian Watson are thrilled with the revamp.
Sheila said: “The opening night was fantastic.
“It seemed as if the whole of Boldon came to see the changes that have been made and we hope it continues.
“In fact, it was so busy our area manager had to pop behind the bar to help with service – it was just like Christmas Eve.
“The designers have done a great job.
“The pub is now flooded with light and even though the look is modern, it’s in keeping with the beautiful building so it still has that warm, welcoming feeling.
“We’re just delighted with the changes, as are our customers.”
A new food menu was also launched yesterday.
Sheila added: “The pub just looks fantastic.
“It’s been a while since our last investment and I can safely say it’s been worth the wait.
“The Grey Horse is a great community pub that caters for everyone so we hope the refurbishment will entice new customers as well as being a home from home for our existing customers.
