BUDDING Miss Englands will don dresses worn by Tulisa and Towie stars in the hope of taking the national title.
New Sunderland business By Christie dress shop, in Ryhope, is donating a dress to the winner of Miss 24 Carat, a qualifying heat in the country’s biggest beauty pageant.
Christie Thompson has set up the boutique to give Wearside women the chance to wear gowns like those seen on celebrities. She will be choosing a dress to suit the winner of Miss 24 Carat after the competition’s final takes place next month.
Now in its second year, the contest was set up by hairdresser Jodie Breeds who owns 24 Carat salon in Grangetown, to give a girl the chance to represent her brand at Miss England.
Jodie said: “We have 15 girls who have been selected for the final. Some are from Sunderland and the North East but some are from as far as Nottingham. They’re all amazing, it’s going to be a hard task choosing between them.
“The winner will be wearing one of Christie’s dresses on the Miss England catwalk. It would be such a huge achievement for Miss 24 Carat to be Miss England.”
Girls with brand titles will compete alongside others with area titles at the Miss England finals in Torquay in June. Christie, who has set up her new business in Ryhope Street South, said: “We’ve got a lot of designs coming in from Paris and New York. They are the same design as those worn by Katy Perry, Tulisa, Kelly Rowland, Lucy from The Only Way is Essex and other celebrities.”
Among the Wearside girls vying for top spot in the pageant are Stephanie Robson and Jade Bambrough.
Stephanie, 18, from Seaburn, said: “I competed in Miss 24 Carat last year and it was a great experience.” Jade, 18, from Thorney Close, said: “I would be terrified to make it to Miss England but it would be amazing at the same time.’’
l By Christie will be hosting a charity night for Miss England’s chosen charities, Beauty with a Purpose and If You Care Share, on April 26 at the Roker Hotel.
Tickets, which include a three course meal and entertainment, cost £15. They are available from the shop on 523 6355.
