A TRAVEL agent has made the journey into the Hall of Fame after scooping a top award for his achievements.

Hays Travel’s John Milburn, 25, collected the Young Manager of the Year award, following in the footsteps of the company’s founder, John Hays, who won his coveted place in the British travel industry’s roll call of honour three years ago.

John, who grew up in Ryhope and was a pupil at Southmoor Academy before becoming an accounts apprentice, headed to the Savoy in London for the ceremony.

The award, set up in 1995, has previously been won by Sir Richard Branson and Sir Rocco Forte.

John, who is head of operations for Hays Travel’s Independence Group consortium, said: “The award means a lot to me and is an affirmation of the hard work and dedication I have given to my role over the last 10 years.

“It is also a credit to Hays Travel for their ongoing support and development, which has helped me progress to where I am today.”

John was appointed as a team leader at the age of 18 after completing an NVQ.
