PRETTY Jade Rye is the latest hopeful who will be strutting her stuff in the Miss Sunderland contest.

The 17-year-old won a place in the final after being named Miss Quayside Exchange, at a heat held at the East End bar.

Jade will now compete against fellow finalists at the Rio Carnival-themed Miss Sunderland final on May 19.

She said: “I’ve been wanting to do Miss Sunderland for a long time but have always been too young.

“This year though was the first year I could enter and I thought it was a great opportunity to take.

“It’s a great stepping stone for what I want to do in the future.”

Other finalists from the Quayside Exchange heat were Alice Pye from Boldon, Melika Kaffash, 23, from Houghton, and Jade Wilson, 18, from Sunderland.

Toni Bradbrook, 17, was also voted through on the night by public vote.

Jade, from Shotton Colliery, added: “I never expected to win.

“I was so overwhelmed to hear my name called. I can’t wait for the final.”

This year’s Miss Sunderland contest will take place at Rainton Meadows Arena, to find the girl who will represent Sunderland at Miss England in 2013.

Beauty queen Tamzin Cummings, from Ashbrooke, will represent the city at this year’s Miss England final after a head-to-head contest with reigining Miss Sunderland Pip Attle from Chester-le-Street.
