FORGET Miami Ink – welcome to Peterlee Ink.

Hundreds of tattoo enthusiasts will descend on a leisure centre for a body art extravaganza.

The 10th annual Peterlee Tattoo Convention will be held at Peterlee Leisure Centre, in St Cuthbert’s Way, tomorrow.

Scores of fans are in for a treat as the event takes on a Las Vegas theme this year.

People will be greeted by showgirls and traders and tattooists will be dressed in American-style fancy dress, as well as decking out their booths in USA-focused garb.

Tattooists from Norway, Poland, Bulgaria, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa will be among the exhibitors.

For the first time in the event’s history, there will also be tattooing done by “hand-tappers”, whose creations are done by hand rather than machine.

Spectators are expected to travel from across the country.

There will be awards for the best tattoos in 20 categories, judged by industry experts from around the world.

The event has been organised by Eddie Hardiman, of the Horden-based Eddie’s Tattoo Studio, every year.

His daughter, Trudy Hardy, 42, who helps to run the shop, said: “Everything is sorted for the weekend and people are trying to get last-minute advance tickets.

“People can buy them until noon on Saturday and after that, anyone wishing to go will have to pay on the door.

“There will be piercing going on throughout the day, as well as body modifications.”

She said entertainment would come from a duo called Miss Motown and Straight Jacket Circus and local band Central Park.

The event runs from noon until 10.30pm.

Tickets can still be obtained by calling the studio on 587 1787 for £8, or on the door for £10.
