PANTO madness will take over the airwaves.

Presenters from 107 Spark FM, Sunderland’s community radio station, locked themselves in the station’s green room for a day to unleash some festive fun and record their take on Aladdin.

In preparation for the show, the Spark cast has been getting tips from the region’s panto stage stars.

The resulting production will be broadcast by the station across the festive season.

Jonny Chambers of Spark said: “Basically, since we started in 2009, we’ve recorded a radio pantomime featuring some of our Spark presenters as you’ve never heard them before.

“Previous ones have included Snow White and Cinderella and Take That – written by students at Sandhill View School.

“We essentially lock ourselves in the Spark Green Room Studio for a day and unleash some panto madness, editing it down and playing it put over the Christmas season.”

He added: “What started off as a bit of fun has transformed into a major part of our Christmas calendar at Spark and has become quite a major fixture in our festive programming.

“From the first one lasting only 10 minutes, it’s become a little monster that’s getting bigger each year.”
