ORGANISERS moved heaven and earth to ensure Sunderland’s first Fire and Ice Ball turned out to be a roaring success.

Hundreds packed Sunderland Minster to see a host of DJs spin tracks for the dance event, which was staged by Sun FM and Lola’s Bar.

House group K Class – K Class, who are behind club hits Rhythm is a Mystery and Let Me Show You The Way – Sunderland TV chef and DJ Stacie Stewart, and The Futureheads’ guitarist Barry Hyde were among those who took to the decks for the red and white-themed event.

Simon Grundy, from city radio station Sun FM, says he hopes the ball is the first of other such events in Sunderland.

“We are thinking of other unconventional things we can do,” he added

“This was a bit of a risk, but we had support from our partners who came aboard.

“And we’d definitely love to do more things like this in the future.”
