KING of curries Syed Zohorul Islam celebrated 10 sizzling years of success.

 The master chef marked the occasion in his Durham Capital restaurant by cooking up a spicy spread to tickle the tastebuds of the city’s mayor, Councillor Les Thomson, and his wife Lucille.

 The award-winning Sunderland chef, one of the best in Britain, who for three years running has taken the top title at the international British Fusion Food Festival – in Madrid Dubai and the Dhaka Sheraton in India – is in line for another award.

 His expertise as executive chef at his Claypath restaurant will be recognised at a glittering award ceremony in London next month.

 The awards night of Curry Life magazine will mark the best British and European curry chefs for their culinary excellence.

 The father of five, who learnt his trade in his uncle’s restaurant – the Chester Tandoori in Chester Road – started in the business at 16.

 Mr Islam says his recipe for success is “quality and trying my best”.
