WORKING much longer than nine to five, tribute act Andrea Rutherford does her best to imitate her idol Dolly Parton.
Sunderland-born Andrea tours the UK as the star of the Dolly Parton Story, with husband Richard and their band The Partoners.
Her eerily-accurate singing voice has fooled some of the country and western star’s biggest fans.
But she was shocked to find her blonde locks and curvy figure were being used on unofficial Dolly memorabilia.
A friend discovered a company in Hong Kong was selling orange smartphone covers, bearing Andrea’s image, on internet auction site eBay.
Andrea, 40, originally from Farringdon, admits she was flattered, as she spends up to an hour creating her Dolly look.
But she decided to complain to eBay in a bid to protect her copyright. The auction was pulled and she received an apologetic email from the sellers.
A eBay spokesman said: “Anyone with concerns about infringements of copyright on eBay should report the item via the listing page and we will take appropriate action.”
Andrea, who has just completed a successful mini-tour of Scotland, said: “I had some new photographs done by a friend, Fiona, who is a photographer. I put them on my Facebook page and one of my Facebook friends found them, because she was looking for Dolly Parton phone covers. I looked and I couldn’t believe it.
“It was a company in Hong Kong, so maybe they don’t understand the language and they have found my website.
“We had to report it because they didn’t ask my permission, so we reported it to eBay.
“It turns out they only had two available. I’ve contacted them and asked if I could buy one of them and they have said they will send one.
“It’s quite flattering really, as it takes about an hour to do the make-up because I don’t have the same team Dolly does.
“I put a huge amount of effort into getting the look. Each wig I have got has got a little bit better and I have got better at the make-up.”
Originally a wedding singer in band Laughing Jacks, where she met Richard, Andrea became Dolly nearly three years ago.
She decided to record an album of country music and friends commented on how similar they sounded. Now she regular works as a Dolly, performing the 65-year-old star’s hits.
