Mackem model Tamzin Cummings, 21, impressed at the contest’s semi-final and will compete for the ultimate beauty pageant crown later this month.

Tamzin, from Ashbrooke, said: “I am thrilled that I have qualified for a place in the Miss England grand final. The competition was very tough, so to be awarded a place in the top 15 is amazing.
“Even if I don’t win, the experience so far has been amazing. I have already made some lifelong friends and had a massive confidence boost as well as raised money for a good cause. I would recommend it to anyone.”
The Miss England grand final starts in Birmingham on June 23 with a two-day boot camp where the 60 finalists, made up of semi-finalist winners and automatic entrants, will undergo a fitness test and participate in a modelling round.
The winners of these two rounds will be to fast-tracked through to the top 15 at the grand final in Leicester on June 26.
Sunderland University student Tamzin has competed in the contest once before, in 2010, where she came fourth.
When asked what the judges should be looking for in a Miss England winner, Angie Beasley, director of Miss England, said: “We are looking for a well-rounded individual who stands out from the crowd and possesses a natural beauty and flair. They must also be personable, eloquent and athletic, as well as being someone who will be a role model and a great ambassador for their country.”
Angie added: “The standard of girls taking part in Miss England Final this is very high so the judges are going to have a really difficult job.”
The girl who will compete as Miss Sunderland in Miss England next year will be chosen at the Miss Sunderland 2013 final which takes place at Rainton Meadows Arena on Sunday.
Tamzin won this year’s regional title through a public vote.
