PRETTY woman Tamzin Cummings, 21, wowed judges to take third place at last night’s Miss England contest.

The fashion student from Ashbrooke is now the most successful Miss Sunderland ever after also coming fourth in the contest in 2010.

Miss Devon, Charlotte Holmes (centre) wins the Miss England Final, with 1st runner-up Miss North Yorkshire, Anastasia Smith (right) and 2nd runner-up Sunderland People's Choice, Tamzin Cummings (left) at Athena, Leicester.

She competed against 60 lovelies in England’s ultimate beauty pageant before former Britain’s Next Top Model contestant Charlotte Holmes from Devon was announced as the winner

Tamzin, who studies at Sunderland University, said: “I am over the moon to come third in Miss England. Massive congratulations to the new Miss England, Charlotte Louise Holmes.

“Thank you to everyone for your support and especially my amazing boyfriend who pushed me to enter again.”

The final, in Leicester, saw the finalists take part in a series of rounds including an eco-catwalk show where they had to design their own “green outfit”.

Tamzin won the Eco Round with an Edwardian-inspired vintage gown.

Simon Robertson, organiser of Miss Sunderland, said: “Last night was beyond people’s expectations, Tamzin shone out. To win the Miss Eco round was amazing but then to go on and be announced in the top three was just electric.”

“I think a lot of people thought the overall crown should have been hers but it wasn’t to be last night. I think she has Miss England written all over her and she will win that title one day.”

Speaking about why Tamzin has done so well as Miss Sunderland he said: “Her personality just shines through, she is a natural down-to-earth girl and is very talented.

“I remember first meeting her in 2010 and she has gained so much confidence since then.”

Tamzin won the Miss Sunderland 2012 crown after winning a people’s choice vote against Miss Sunderland 2011, Pip Attle from Chester-le-Street.

A glittering final which took place earlier in the month at Rainton Meadows saw Rebecca Mason, 19, from High Grindon, crowned as Miss Sunderland 2013 and she will go on to represent the city in Miss England next year.

County Durham beauty Holly Lyons, 18, from Easington Colliery, also strutted her stuff in this year’s Miss England as Miss 24 Carat, a title owned by 24 Carat salon in Grangetown.
