DUST off your big shorts and hefty boots – this is how derby games were played in the 1950s.

British Pathé has released its footage from the Newcastle vs Sunderland FA Cup Quarter-final at St James’ Park in 1956.

The footage shows the packed terraces, old-fashioned strips and Newcastle’s ground in the days before football stadia towered over their surroundings.

The game saw Black Cats win 2-0 before an attendance of 61,474.
