A RESTAURANT is celebrating after winning a place in two illustrious guides to the best in British cuisine.
The Castle Eden Inn, in Castle Eden, has become a new entry in both The Michelin Guide 2012 and The Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide UK 2012.
Head chef Dave Coulson, 26, hopes it is the start of even better things to come.
Dave, who reached the final three of last year’s BBC Masterchef: The Professionals competition, said: “There are only four pubs from the North East included in this and we have gone straight in.
“To get in, you have to prove your consistency and prove you have a quality standard.”
But Dave, who heads up a team of five chefs, is hoping to go even further.
“I would love to be a Michelin-starred chef. It might be a 10-year job, but there is no reason why I can’t do it here,” he said.
Dave said the restaurant and pub prides itself on food which includes locally-sourced ingredients.
He believes the Michelin staff must have paid a surprise visit to the inn before making their judgement to include it in the two guides.
The latest boost for the restaurant comes a year after Dave appeared in the final of the Masterchef: The Professionals show on BBC2.
“I did learn things from that,” he said. “That was my 15 minutes of fame and I am more aware of what people think of me.”
