YOUNGSTERS have been getting in a flap after getting up close and personal to three feathered friends.

Fuzz, Bilbo and Henry have been entertaining visitors to Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens as part of its Amazing Owls sessions.

Fuzz, a tiny Scops owl, Bilbo, a barn owl, and Henry the European eagle owl will be on hand this week in the Rowland Burdon Room, in Museum Street.

Jennie Lambert, the museum’s learning officer, said: “We hope our visitors enjoy finding out more about these fascinating birds from the experts. They can also visit the museum’s World’s Alive Gallery, which features Snowy Owl and Tawny Owl specimens in their natural habitats.”

Jo Cunningham, museum manager, said: “We are delighted to offer our visitors the chance to see these beautiful and impressive birds close up.”

Adventurous visitors can put on a glove and handle one of the owls under expert guidance from one of the falconers.

Charges apply for handling and having photos taken with the birds.

Prices start from £3.95 for a small print.

Amazing Owls will run from Wednesday to Friday, between 11am and 3pm and on Sunday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
