The fitness guru is taking over the empty former Van Mildert unit and has turned it into a pop-up shop, selling everything from workout wear and supplements, as well as using it as a venue for exercise classes.

Although Katie runs a successful online shop, this is the first time she’ll be able to sell to customers face to face.

Katie, who rose to fame in the 2014 series of hit show Apprentice, said: “I’ve previously only had an online shop but it’s great to be able to take what I do online and bring it to a space where people can look at the products.

“People do like shopping online, but there’s also no substitute for being able to look and feel clothes and try them on.”

Katie says she hopes to show people that fitness wear doesn’t have to be dull.

“In particular women’s fitness wear can be a bit bland,” she said. “But these days active wear is about more than what we wear to the gym, people wear it as leisure wear too, so it needs to be more fashionable.

The city centre shop, in between Next and Waterstones, will run a programme of daily classes suitable for all ages, with experts on hand to give fitness advice. Adults classes for those aged over 16 will include pilates, mams and buggies, body blast and full body fit. A range of classes aimed at youngsters will also be available including: Jittabugs move and groove, baby ballet and yoga pupz.

Since announcing that she was launching the venture last week, Katie says she’s had a great response.

She said: “People have been really interested in it and I just can’t wait to open the doors now and let people in. The front will be retail with a space at the back for classes, but it won’t be intimidating, like some classes can be. People will able to have a look for themselves.

“The hardest thing when you’re trying to make a change is going to the gym or to a class for the first time, but I want to make it less intimidating for people. It’s going to be a super-friendly environment where people can have a chat about their fitness.”

•Classes can be booked seven days in advance by calling the store on 07725 889957 or via Katie Bulmer-Cooke’s Facebook page or by downloading her app.
