PEOPLE of all ages, shapes and sizes will be getting fit and enjoying a raft of activities at this month’s the Big Walk.
The free event at Barnes Park will be the last of the Sunderland in 2012 programme that has delivered a mix of sporting and cultural opportunities across the city to celebrate the London Games.
The Big Walk takes place on September 23, from 11am to 3pm, and there are routes to suit all ages and abilities.
Other activities on offer include face-painting, the Active bus and other sporting games, as well as a Sunderland in 2012 medal for everyone who takes part.
Participants can also take part in a treasure hunt and try their hand at Geocaching – a treasure hunt using a GPS unit to solve puzzles and riddles throughout the park.
Cabinet secretary Coun Mel Speding said: “This is the last event in the Sunderland in 2012 programme, but an Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme including more events and activities is being developed.”
