CHILDREN from Wearside schools can travel to the theatre for free to see the region’s biggest shows.

Gemma Clough, creative learning manager at the Sunderland Empire, helped unveil one of the coaches provided by Neil Stratton-Charlton, from Stratton’s Coaches.

Working in partnership with the Sunderland-based coach firm and with the help of donations from theatre patrons, the Empire is offering schools free coach travel when they book to see a show.

Gemma said: “We understand that the cost of transport is one of the real challenges when planning a school trip to the theatre. With this in mind, Coaches For Kids was set up to help schools within the Sunderland Local Education Authority to meet the costs of arranging trips to the theatre.”

Coaches For Kids is available to schools within Sunderland LEA who have made a theatre booking for a minimum of 25 students. Coaches are allocated on first-come first-served basis and are subject to availability.
