CAR giant Nissan has welcomed plans to host the first Delicious North East Food Festival.
The event, which brings together the best cooking talent and tastes, will be held at the plant on July 14 and 15.
CBeebies food adventurer Stefan Gates will join TV chefs Kenny Atkinson and Dave Coulson along with a host of famous faces in the main attraction – a theatre kitchen.
Pop-up restaurants, stalls, children’s entertainment and a CAMRA real ale and cider festival will complete the event.
Ian Black, production director and chairman of the Nissan Sports and Social Club, said: “We are delighted to host the Delicious Food Festival, it promises to be one of the biggest events in our club’s calendar.
“It’s nice to see an event that the whole family can come along and get involved in. There’s a host of different activities and demonstrations planned for the day. I would urge anyone with a keen interest in food and cooking to come along.”
Richard Craig, who handles events for Nissan, said: “When we spoke to staff about what events they would like to see a lot of them said they would love a food and ale festival.
“The facilities we have here are fantastic. There’s ample free car parking for the crowds and the size of the sports hall is huge. Everyone knows who we are and where we are so it’s the ideal place to put an event like this which we can then develop.
“I’m excited to see all the guest chefs as they’ll all do their own thing. I’m looking forward to the variety on offer.
“Cooking is a bit of a lost art for young people so this is a chance to get them excited about it. It’s going to be brilliant.”
Kids go free and tickets £7 on the door and £5 when prebooked. Details of how to prebook will appear soon on www.deliciousfestival.co.uk
