LOCK up your daughters. And your wives and girlfriends.
Coronation Street serial loverat Peter Barlow is coming to Wearside.
In an episode of the Manchester-based soap to be broadcast on Friday, January 27, the bookie and lothario will tell long-suffering wife Leanne that is he going to Sunderland to buy a greyhound.
However, Wearside menfolk need not fret as it is all a ruse.
Recovering alcoholic Barlow has secretly planned a romantic tryst with glamourous factory owner Carla Connor.
The lovers plan on spending a night in a Chester hotel, but will this mean Peter and Leanne’s relationship goes to the dogs?
Under the name Flaming Nora, a Corrie superfan from Sunderland blogs about all things Weatherfield at www.coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.com, which attracts 350,000 hits a month.
She said it is only the second time the city has been mentioned in the UK’s longest-running soap, which has been on air since 1960.
“The first time was when one of the characters left to become an air hostess ‘flying out of Sunderland airport’ decades after the airport had closed.
“So it looks at least as if the writers have done a bit of research this time when Sunderland gets a mention.”
Although it is not know how Peter will explain arriving back in the Street without a new pooch.
But if he ever makes a trip up to Sunderland, the philanderer is sure of a warmer welcome than he might be receiving from his wife.
Simon Fozzard, marketing manager at Sunderland greyhound track, in Newcastle Road, said: “Greyhounds tend to be sold through trainers.
“But if Peter wanted to call in here, he would see racing from some of the best greyhounds in the North East.”
