SHE’S used to cleaning out bowels – but now a businesswoman will be serving up a treat on national TV this week.
Cath Morgan, who runs a colonic irrigation business in Sunderland, is one of the four amateur cooks to appear on Channel Four’s Come Dine with Me this Friday.
Mrs Morgan, 49, who is also manageress of The Lake pub in Marsden, described the filming as the “best week of her life”.
Because of contractual obligations with the broadcaster she cannot spill the beans as to whether she picks up the £1,000 first prize – or reveal what dishes she cooked for her fellow diners at The Lake.
But she believes she will be portrayed as a “bit of Hyacinth Bucket”, a reference to the bossy lead character in the hit TV comedy Keeping Up Appearances.
She said: “That is true in a way because I like things to be perfect and I am a fussy eater.
“In the publicity for the show I’m described as a ‘bowel-obsessed colonic irrigationist’, which may be taking it a bit far, but the whole week of filming was amazing. It was the best week of my life.
“Everyone was great and if they asked me to do it again I would jump at the chance.
“I applied to be in the show more than two years ago and they’ve had my details since then. I had three telephone interviews and a screen test before I was chosen.”
Mrs Morgan’s husband Bob and grown-up children Lea and Katie will sit down to watch the show, which was filmed in July.
She said: “Now the screening is so close I’m a little nervous to see how I come across. We’ll all be sitting around watching it together.”
* Come Dine with Me is on Channel Four, from 8pm on Friday. Also appearing is Stan Freeman, from Cleadon Village.
