You're only as happy as your most miserable child
Hooray, another Mother's Day, and although my pleas for presents of soil and hard labour were ignored (or simply laughed at), I had a lovely time.
And top marks to Vanessa, who organised my gift – a rather eye-catching pair of Jelly Belly bean wellies!
And as it was such a nice day, I spent a big chunk of it in the garden, wearing the new boots, although they did disturb my next-door neighbour, who advised me not to set foot outside, or I'd get mugged.
That'll be because everyone's jealous of them, I'll bet.
We went out for the traditional late Mother's Day lunch, so I didn't have to cook (another cause for celebration).
The only fly in the ointment was when my mam revealed that, after a year of owning a computer, she's managed to find the Internet versions of this column. All of them.
I did blanch visibly at this, as my regular reader will know, she's been a steady source of general amusement and bewilderment, especially when I've had nothing else to write about.
Now she's been through the archived ones with a fine-toothed comb.
Fuelled by a pitcher of Mother's Day wine, she brought up things I had no recollection of even writing about.
I tried to bluff my way out by saying she'd clicked on to the wrong site, but she said there couldn't be two people who looked that miserable on the byline picture. It's a fair cop.
It's not the most flattering of pictures, but at least it's warts and all, as Oliver Cromwell would have said.
However, all of the columns are true, fuelled by my family's eccentric gene pool, so we can stave off the family feuds in the law courts for a while (especially the bit about her back yard being visible from space, due to the huge amount of solar lights she's crammed into it).
Another unexpected bonus of the weekend was Nick's very good behaviour.
He earned full marks in Friday's daily report (first time ever), his school football team won though to the county cup final and he scored a goal in his club team's 8-0 victory on Sunday morning.
As one friend said at work this week: "You're only as happy as your most miserable child."
