Steve Colman: Football has gone weird
Where did the week go? After all the excitement of the things I was doing last week I did nothing last weekend.
Sat on the sofa and did absolutely nothing. Problem is, that doesn't really make you want to read on to the rest of the article so I'll tell you that after the weekend I did loads. So that's it for this week. Only joking!
Do you know we've been doing this for 52 weeks now? A whole year has passed. I really wish I'd spent more than just last weekend sitting on my sofa. But hey if I had we wouldn't have had so much fun.
I was at the launch of the new Alfa Romeo garage in Newcastle last night with Chef Aldo Zilli cooking for us – watch out for him on Ready Steady Cook next week, it's his first time on there after saying he would never do it at all. He said he thought it would be too difficult. Top Chef? Ingredients? No problem! He's a funny guy and will be a hit rather like the new Alfa Romeo C8 which you and I can't buy as there are only 25 available in the UK and the Editor of the Sunderland Echo has bought them all.
Did you get a chance to get to see Cabaret at the Sunderland Empire? I was there opening night and although I thought it was a brilliant night with Wayne Sleep's MC exactly how you would imagine from him, I was a tad disappointed that Samantha really didn't soar on her big numbers. "Maybe this time" and "Cabaret" should be show-stoppers which leave us all standing applauding for more. She's a canny actress and singer but just misses that final X Factor that we all look for. Maybe next time!
It's been a weird week in the football world, no a weird season. Hull flying high early doors and now thei manager - South Shields Phil Brown - would love to get stopped by the police to pick up some points. But everyone in the bottom ten worrying about relegation and everyone in the top ten thinking they might get to Europe. It's so bizarre.
Looks like Man Utd will be the winners with 1-0 wins featuring quite prominently – a bit like Arsenal in the old days and Chelsea in Jose Mourihno's first season. I must admit I love goals and find a 1-0 win a huge let down when you know you have the talent to go on and get more. But over a season it is the points that count and if you were banking a pound a week it would mount up, as opposed to losing a pound or three every week. Simple accountancy I suppose, but not as exciting as banking five pounds every so often.
I think I mentioned last week I had been offered an interview with Les McKeowan the lead singer of the Bay City Rollers. I had a lot of emails which convinced me that I had an opportunity to interview him and I got an email suggesting Saturday afternoon 3pm lets be honest I really can't do that. KO time for football on a Saturday Sorry Les - Bye bye Baby!
New Audience figures at Magic 1152am – again more of you listening. Thank you to you, your family and friends and anyone else who knows me.
