Remembrance Day
I take Remembrance Sunday very seriously.
I think it's extremely important for us all to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their own lives for our freedom – and to those who are still prepared to put themselves in harm's way in Iraq and Afghanistan.
When I was younger, however, Remembrance Sunday did not mean much to me.
Today's younger generation have a far greater understanding and appreciation of the day than I did as a teenager.
Neither 13-year-old Gabriel and nor 10-year-old Isaac needed asking if they wanted to attend our local service at church and then at a war memorial.
Isaac even wore his Sea Scout uniform, and both of my boys insisted I find poppies for them before we attended the service.
I'm sure this is not merely an interest in all things militaristic, but a genuine feeling of thanks to those who fell in our names.
Of course, my lads were far from alone. I have to say I've rarely seen my church fuller than the Remembrance Day service last Sunday.
Local uniformed organisations were their in huge numbers – Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, they were all there.
And all beautifully behaved.They were a credit to their generation.
Isaac is away at a school camp.He was really excited by his trip and thoroughly looking forward to going away.
He left on Monday morning and comes home tomorrow. We've not heard from him since he left, and while I'm not worried in the slightest about him being away, I do miss him.
I doubt the reverse will be true.Isaac is the type of child who gives you all his love and attention when you're there, but forgets all about you when he's surrounded by his mates.And I wouldn't have it any other way.
We're taking Isaac around a prospective new school on Saturday.He's in his last year at junior's and the move to the "big school" is fast approaching.Guess who'll be showing us round this new school? Yes, his brother Gabriel.
Problem is, Gabriel doesn't want Isaac to go to the same school.
We're expecting him to run down his own school in an attempt to dissuade his younger brother from attending.
