A real hero and a bunch of idiots
Blinded for life, PC David Rathband, is not only the true hero of the hour but the true face of forgiveness.
Since he was shot in the face by Raoul Moat. PC Rathband, 42, has vowed to return to duty and said: "I bear no malice towards the man who shot me, but now wish to move on with my life. My injuries are life-changing. It will require significant adjustments in the future in all aspects of my life."
The dad of two, who was shot at point- blank range, knows to his cost the reality of staring Moat's madness in the face, unlike the thousands who must be totally divorced from reality to post warped messages hailing Moat a hero.
David, a copper for 10 years, was enraged after hearing that thousands have praised the killer on Facebook.
What a brave man he is, positively refusing to allow the evil to destroy him. And what must he be thinking without his sight, hearing of this sick hero-worship?
He's appalled and said: "The people who call him a legend and a hero need to look up the definition of those words because they have got it wrong. A hero is someone who has faced terrible circumstances and come out for the better or who has made an incredible contribution to society."
Just as the good people of Rothbury have demanded their council remove the shrine to Moat on the riverbank in the interests of public decency, let's hear more of a public outcry that Facebook shuts down this offensive, disgusting page pronto. One message reads: "How exciting it was watching news 24/7 ... Awesome."
Watching live television of Moat's final hours was as if these people were watching The Fugitive movie, desensitised and divorced from reality.
