SUNDERLAND is being sprinkled with a bit of Shakespeare’s magic.

Theatre Space North East is presenting an outdoor performance of the Bard’s classic play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at Barnes Park.

Corinne Kilvingston runs Shadow Theatre Group and has set up Theatre Space North East to make theatre more accessible.

The Hendon 30-year-old, who is directing the play along with friend Paul Dunn, said that the theatre troupe wants to give visitors a performance they will not forget.

She added: “We’ve had people stopping us in the park while we have been rehearsing and they are all eager to come down and watch.”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is expected to spark a host of performances in unsual places by the group.

“We’ve got lots of plans for future events,” said Corinne.

“We’d like to do something in Barnes Park for Christmas and several of the other parks have already approached us about putting on other plays.

“I think once we have proved ourselves to the community and the council, we can really start to think about what we will do next.”

The play is free, but donations are welcome. It starts at 7pm at the Coach House Cafe, tonight and tomorrow.
