A NEW charity has been launched to help boost sport in the region.
Sported will roll out its successful pilot project across the North East, with a dedicated team on hand to offer business advice and mentor sport providers to reach their potential.
It will also run a funding programme for its member organisations.
Founder Sir Keith Mills said: “For too long, thousands of small groups around the country have done an outstanding job using sport to improve the lives of young people but with little or no support.”
He added: “I am really excited that now Sported will be able to provide this much-needed support.”
Organisations across Wearside can now register.
From next month, Easington area organisations can apply.
From April 2012, the rest of County Durham can get involved.
