SHOPPERS are being invited to swap bargain hunting for bird spotting as part of a national birdwatching event.

Dalton Park in Murton is welcoming birdwatchers to its parkland on the weekend of January 29 and 30 to join in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch.

The birdwatch weekend is the world’s biggest event of its kind and aims to monitor bird numbers in the UK.

Participants of all ages are asked to spend an hour birdwatching, completing a survey form with their findings.

Forms will be available to download from the Dalton Park website – www.dalton-park.co.uk – or to pick up from the “at your service desk” in the management office.

The centre is also preparing to welcome school groups from Monday through to February 4, with any teachers interested in visiting asked to contact Louise Thompson on 526 6500.

l The Echo will be printing a feature about the Big Garden Birdwatch – and we want you to take part.

Did you join in last year and do you have a picture of yourself and/or your family and friends in your garden keeping an eye out for birds?
