Forget about Cristiano Ronaldo – Boldon Girls Under-11s have secured this summer's most controversial transfer signing.

The Diamond triplets helped Whiteleas Boys Under-10s get to the final of a cup competition, but they won't be allowed to play together next season because one of them is a girl.

The team will lose their player-of-the-season last year, Bethany Diamond, because FA rules won't allow girls to play on the same team as boys in the Under-11s age group and upwards.
