When Peterlee mayor Coun Mary Cartwright went for lunch in Sunderland she wasn't expecting to end up with her car being clamped.

Coun Cartwright thought her Nissan Micra would be safe at the Travelodge on Low Row, Sunderland, while she enjoyed a meal with friends at the nearby Lambton Worm pub.

But she returned to find it had been clamped and slapped with a £90 release fee.
