IT’S the last chance to get the kettle on for a giant coffee morning event.

Macmillan Cancer Support wants people in Wearside, South Tyneside and County Durham to get in touch with them as soon as possible in a bid to beat the deadline to register for the fund-raising event.

The charity says it is delighted at the fantastic response from local people and celebrities who are supporting the event, including Loose Women presenter Denise Welsh and the 300 residents in the area who have already registered to take part.

However, another 100 people must sign up to achieve the local fund-raising target of more than £68,000.

Sarah Goldie, from the charity, said: “We are really grateful to everyone who has signed up to hold a coffee morning so far. Their support is very much appreciated and we hope they have a fantastic time at their event.

“However, we want as many people as possible to take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning this year to help us raise more money than ever before to fund our vital cancer services.

“The great thing about the event is that it is really easy to take part in, especially as you can tailor it to suit yourself.

“If you can’t do it on September 30, then just pick another day. If you’re not keen on coffee and would rather have cocktails or even herbal tea, then that’s fine as well. All that matters is that you take part.”

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer, providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.

To register to host a coffee morning visit: www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee or call 0845 070 1315.
