Phil Parkinson has informed the 33-year-old he is free to leave in January, and confirmed he will not form part of the Black Cats’ squad for the foreseeable future.
But that shouldn’t worry Parkinson too much, given Sunderland’s record without McGeady.

Hide AdIndeed, since they were relegated to League One in 2018, the Black Cats have won 47.1% of the league games they have played without McGeady in the side.
In comparison, they have claimed the three points in a marginally less 44.9% of the matches in which McGeady has featured either as a starter or from the bench.
However, it’s worth noting that Sunderland have lost 17.6% of their games without their star man, compared to just 16.4% with him.
The stats should, however, give Parkinson confidence that his side can claim just a third triumph of his reign without the influential attacker.
