Lee Johnson’s are hoping to return to winning ways when they face Blackpool tonight.

Sunderland followed a 2-2 draw against Hull City with a 3-3 draw with Accrington Stanley at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

The Black Cats are currently on a six-game winless run and haven’t won since the Good Friday clash against Oxford United.

Has Sanderson played his last game for Sunderland?

It certainly looks like the defender has played his last game this season.

Johnson says Sanderson will be out for six weeks, which would take us to June 8. The League One play-off final is on May 30.

Sanderson has a year left on his contract at Wolves while several clubs have been credited with interest in the player.

If Sunderland are to have any chance of re-signing Sanderson, they would surely have to win promotion from League One.

Massive injury blow

Lee Johnson has confirmed that Dion Sanderson is unlikely to play again this season as he faces six weeks on the sidelines.

The 21-year-old returned to Wolves last week to undergo scans on a back problem that has kept him out of Sunderland’s recent fixtures.

Johnson said: “Dion will be out for six weeks.

“He’s a good personality and a great kid first and foremost, but the bit that most impressed me was how he stepped up in the leadership and communications skills areas, which shows he has a bright future.

“It’s a big blow, but I don’t think about those types of things in that way.”
